Major League Baseball Owners Approve The Launch Of The MLB Network
June 4, 2007
Major League Baseball’s team owners have unanimously approved the launch of the MLB Network, which will carry baseball programming 24 hours a day--including 26 live Saturday night games during the regular season.
The date set for the launch is January 1, 2009, and the network will be available in 47 million cable and satellite homes. It is two-thirds owned by MLB, with the remainder of the shares held by Time Warner Cable, DIRECTV, Cox and Comcast.
The MLB Network will be available on the basic tier, as opposed to on the sports tiers, which usually cost extra for viewers.
