Wegener Scores Patents for Satellite Distribution

Wegener, the Duluth, Ga., television equipment vendor, said it was granted two U.S. patents on satellite media distribution technology.

The first patent, entitled “Error Correction Apparatus and Method,” No. 7,296,204), describes a bandwidth-efficient process for distributing files over a satellite network. The process enables a receiver to determine which, if any, packets are missing from a data file and to re-order them. The patented error-correction method is incorporated into several Wegener products.

The second patent, entitled “Apparatus and Method for Accommodating Loss of Signal,” No. 7,263,648, describes a method for simultaneously recording and playing back digital media content from flash memory storage. The method allows flash memory within digital satellite receivers to simultaneously play, receive and record audio segments without perceived service interruption. Wegener says it has already embedded the technology into several audio satellite receivers.
