Al Jazeera International adds laptop TV newsgathering capability

Al Jazeera International, the 24-hour news and current affairs channel headquartered in Doha, Qatar, is equipping its journalists with the Quicklink laptop video transmission system.

The software technology will allow journalists to transmit live and edited reports over any IP network, including Inmarsat’s new BGAN satellite system. It also offers the potential for anyone —journalist or members of the public — with a 3G cameraphone to transmit live to Al Jazeera International.

Quicklink’s encoding and transmission system has been adopted by many broadcasters in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. The software gives TV correspondents the freedom to transmit from where the story is, while maintaining high visual quality.
