WTAMU relies on compact box-style HD lenses for portable in-studio camera

West Texas A&M University has added three new Canon DIGISUPER 22xs Compact Studio HD lenses to its TV facilities.

The DIGISUPER 22xs (model XJ22x7.3B IE-D) lens delivers box lens optical performance in a compact size scaled for portable HD cameras.

The university specified Canon's DIGISUPER 22xs Compact Studio HD lenses shortly after the completion of the school's new Sybill B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex. A large, comprehensive facility, the complex surrounds its 16:9 TV production set with a master control room, four audio production suites, five edit suites and a radio station. The environment is tapeless, HD-ready and reflects the increasing trend of production facilities employing portable cameras in a studio environment.

The DIGISUPER 22xs is based on Canon's classic studio lens design principles, but constrained to a size and weight (13.4lbs) almost equivalent to contemporary portable production cameras, which typically weigh about 15lbs.

The lens enables users to configure cost-effective, compact HD studio lens/camera packages that can be supported on modestly sized pedestals or sturdy tripod systems.

Although small in size, the lens offers advanced features such as Canon's eDrive system that provides lens-status information on an easy-to-read display that delivers accurate information for such settings as f-stop, focal length and focusing distance.
