Wavexpress Supports ‘Olympics on the Go’

NBC has tapped broadband media technology and services provider Wavexpress to devise a Windows Vista Media Center-based portal for its online coverage of the Beijing Olympics.

“NBC Olympics on the Go” will use Wavexpress’ TVTonic Internet video service to allow Media Center users to watch NBC’s coverage of Olympic events in up-to-HD quality on the go on their laptops. The free service organizes coverage by sport, providing specific channels matched to the hundreds of events that make up the Games.

Windows Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate users with Windows Media Center subscribe to the channels they are interested in and the service automatically synchronizes NBC video clips as they become available, downloading the clips for later playback offline.

“This service will provide a fantastic viewing experience for Olympic fans with Windows Vista Media Center,” said Wavexpress President Michael Sprague. “They can choose their favorite sports, from diving to water polo to gymnastics, and extended coverage is automatically synchronized to their PC in the middle of the night.”
