Vizrt to acquire Curious Software

Vizrt, a provider of virtual set and computer graphics systems, has signed a Letter of Intent to acquire the assets of privately held Curious Software Company. No financial details were available, but the acquisition is expected to be closed by June 1, subject to approval by the Board of Directors of both companies.

The acquisition provides Vizrt with increased access to U.S.-based customers, including Curious Software’s 185 broadcast clients in the U.S. (including KWWL-TV, a Raycom Media station in Iowa) and 500 worldwide.

Station news departments use Curious World Maps to create digital maps for broadcast television news. Its user interface and built-in databases make it quick and easy to generate detailed, broadcast quality still and animated maps on any Windows PC or Macintosh computer.

The combination of products such as Vizrt’s Viz|Artist animation software with Curious Software’s core product, Curious World Maps, offers users a template-based mapping system that leverages 3-D animation and design tools for mapping amendments – all running on Vizrt’s renderer, Viz|Engine. This combination is already being used at the Spanish broadcaster ETB, which has integrated Curious World Maps and Viz|Weather applications to enhance their weather programming.
