Two Belo stations win 2003 George Foster Peabody Awards

KHOU-TV in Houston and WCNC-TV in Charlotte, NC, two Belo Corp. stations, have been awarded 2003 George Foster Peabody Awards. Five Belo television stations and executives have won the awards since 2000.

No other commercial station group in the United States has won more than two Peabody Awards during this period. KHOU and WCNC were among only five local television stations from across the country to win.

KHOU's "Evidence of Errors," an investigation of shoddy work at the Houston Police Department's crime lab, and WCNC's "Medicaid Dental Center Investigation," which uncovered unnecessary treatments for children at dental clinics, were honored.

Established in 1940 and administered by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Peabody Awards recognizes distinguished achievement and meritorious public service by stations, networks, producing organizations and individuals.
