The Securities and Exchange Commission is reviewing Apple’s (NASDAQ: APPL) disclosure about the health of its CEO, Steve Jobs, Bloomberg reports. Jobs, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004, was a no-show at the recent Macworld convention in San Francisco, an absence he attributed to a “metabolic” issue. He later embarked on a five-month leave of absence after discovering his health problems were “more complex” than he initially thought.
The SEC is investigating the company’s information about Jobs to make sure investors were not misled. Apple stock yesterday dropped about 5 percent, from a high of $82 to close at $78.20. The slip was in line with the rest of the market, which retreated on continuing fears of bank insolvency. The Dow reflected the banking sector plunge, falling 332 points--a record for an Inauguration Day. Most of the markets had rebounded within an hour of the opening bell today.
