TSI chooses Zandar for monitoring new multichannel transmission facility

TSI is using Zandar’s FusionPro MultiViewer software to handle new channels and cover live sporting events.

Broadcast services specialist TSI, based in London, has chosen Zandar’s FusionPro for monitoring and alarm management in their new transmission master control room.

With the need to handle new channels and to cover live sporting events such as the UEFA Cup and FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Sportfive, TSI needed a flexible monitoring and alarm management system with intelligent layout control and reliable, fail-safe multichannel operation.

TSI’s system design engineers were able to configure what they wanted with Z Manager, Zandar's control software. It allows MultiViewer features to be remotely managed from a standard PC and supports the design and recall of numerous different layouts.

Z Manager allows on-screen and external alarms to be enabled on a PiP basis and scheduled according to operational times to prevent unwanted alerts.

Operators use a combination of external alarms together with on-screen text and graphics configured for each PiP for UMD router tally, alarm state and audio level to ensure a fault-free service for their clients.

The system design took advantage of FusionPro's alarm interface by using the alarm outputs to drive an external alarm light and buzzer controlled from a TSI panel so that operators are alerted the moment an alarm state is triggered and can react quickly to restore normal operation.

The FusionPro system not only enabled the TSI TX channel expansion to fit into the existing space by using a virtual monitor wall instead of CRTs, but it also reduced the reliance on main router crosspoints and lowered both power consumption and air-conditioning requirements.

Zandar's distributor E-Mediavision provided consultation throughout the project and enhanced the application by customizing the alarm scheduling facility to suit TSI's requirements.
