TF1 Access Thomson Solutions For Sports Broadcasts

Under its partnership with the French television network TF1, Thomson is supplying most of the HD equipment being used by TF1 for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, which is being held in France until October 20. Thomson solutions, used for all technical services, will enable TF1to produce, broadcast and transmit television images of this event live and in high definition. Thomson will be involved throughout the image chain, from capture to broadcasting to transmission.

Thomson has designed and developed TF1's entire central control room on a turnkey basis, for both SD (standard definition) and HD. The central control room is used for broadcasting the usual programming around the clock, but also has HD capacities that TF1 can use to transmit images from the Rugby World Cup live in SD across all networks and in high definition. Most HD encoders used are provided by Thomson.

The digital transmitters that Thomson supplies to TDF will also be used to transmit images and sounds in High Definition Digital Terrestrial Television to end-subscribers from Paris and Rennes areas.

Thomson has also put together the systems that Eurosport will be using to broadcast 28 World Cup matches in SD.
