TBS to Use S-A's Prism For Video Transport

Turner Broadcasting System Networks has chosen Scientific-Atlanta's Prisma IP platform to transport its raw, studio-quality video from multiple sites to the network's central editing facilities in Atlanta, allowing TBS to collect video from satellite, fiber and other sources at multiple locations and use one platform to deliver the signals to a central editing location.

TBS' Prisma IP network will be the first commercial deployment of S-A's SDI line card, which operates at 270 Mbps per port and includes eight ports per line card. It also supports video, data and TDM voice line interfaces, including ASI, IF, 10/100 Base-T, Gigabit Ethernet, OC-3, DS-3 and T-1.

The Prisma IP system, the result of a joint development effort by S-A and Luminous Networks, is an MPLS-enabled, RPR-based multi-protocol transport system that can transport broadcast video, voice and data over a single fiber using DWDM. It can also be deployed in RPT/RPR rings.
