Super Bowl Boosts Comcast HD Set-Top Deployments

Comcast has deployed more than one million HD-capable set-top boxes, thanks in part to Super Bowl fans getting ready for the championship game.

In 2004, 800,000 set-top boxes were sold and Comcast experienced a 143 percent increase in customers wanting the HD service in January 2005, over the same period last year.

Additionally, HDTV service is now available to 93 percent of Comcast customers who can take advantage of its HD-capable DVR service.

More and more people are becoming aware of HDTV, according to a Leitchtman Research Group 2004 survey that reports that 86 percent of consumers have heard of HDTV, up from 73 percent from the year before.
