STMicroelectronics Demodulator Works With Both DVB-S and DVB-S2

While most current standard definition satellite TV uses the DVB-S standard, the recent DVB-S2 standard, which offers improved error correction and allows higher data rates, is becoming more widely used, especially for distribution of high definition content. This week, STMicroelectronics announced it had developed a new dual channel demodulator, the STV0900. The device includes two tuners, allowing consumers to watch one station while recording a second, using either DVB-S or DVB-S2 formats. The chip will interface with the STMicroelectronic STB6100 silicon tuner.

STMicroelectronics said volume production of the dual demodulator is planned for the first half of 2007.
