Sports Illustrated launches content application for mobile devices

Sports Illustrated Digital has launched MySI Mobile, an application sports fans can download for free to access SportsIllustrated.com content on their handsets. The company tapped Action Engine’s Mobile Application Platform to develop the application.

Sports Illustrated launched the application to coincide with the beginning of the March Madness NCAA 70th Annual Division 1 Men’s Basketball Championship last month. Sports fans can use it to select and track the scores, schedules and standings of their favorite teams, view popular SI photos, read sports news and set calendar updates for upcoming games. They can also personalize their homepages by selecting four of their favorite professional and college baseball, basketball, football and hockey teams to track.

The Sports Illustrated deal is one of several that Action Engine has announced in the last few months. It has developed mobile applications similar to MySI Mobile for “The Wall Street Journal,” “Barron’s” and MSNBC, among others. It also helped Sports Illustrated launch Golf.com Course Finder, providing golf enthusiasts the ability to search for golf course information on their mobile devices.

The Action Engine applications support mobile advertising, giving companies such as Sports Illustrated a new way of driving awareness among consumers without forcing them to pay for subscriptions.
