Snell & Wilcox put broadcasters in the driver’s seat

The company will show a new range of SD/HD products for its IQ Modular range of signal conversion products at NAB2005

With a variety of new products that bridge SD and HD technologies to be introduced at NAB2005, Snell & Wilcox said it wants to help broadcasters take control of their transition to a DTV future in a highly scalable and cost-effective way. The key for small to mid-sized stations that have not made the conversion to digital operation, according to the company, is to migrate at their own pace, first to digital and then to full HDTV capability. If they don’t, stations may find the competition hard to beat.

At booth SU6349, Snell & Wilcox will show a new range of SD/HD products for its IQ Modular infrastructure range of signal conversion products. All of these new infrastructure products are “IT-aware” and fully compatible with file-based broadcast technology, thus future-proofing broadcasters against the next inevitable transition to fully tapeless facilities.

More than 25 new IQ Modular infrastructure components — including converters, synchronizers, distribution amplifiers, routers, and audio modules — can be used in either SD or HD resolutions. While IQ Modular components have always offered high dense electronic circuitry, this year the company has placed the emphasis on giving each module the capability to perform multiple tasks with less space, less heat, and lower power consumption.

The new IQDEC00 module includes a 12-bit 3D Golden Gate premium decoder, synchronizer, and audio embedder with noise reduction all on a single compact card. It also features a complete analog ingest solution for both video and audio.

For audio, the new IQBRK00 module can take up to two embedded audio streams, break them out to AES, and then re-ingest the resulting signals. This multi-use module offers a complete AV solution for incoming feeds with firewall, proc. amp, audio shuffling and delay.
