Sinclair and Insight Communications Hammer Out Three-Year Carriage Extension

Sinclair Broadcast Group said it reached an agreement with Insight Communications for a three-year extension of their existing analog and digital carriage agreement. The extension covers four stations in three markets where Sinclair and Insight overlap, from Jan. 1, 2009 through Dec. 31, 2011. Sinclair did not disclose the dollar amount of its retrans fees, it stated that the company “believes this extension, which provides Insight with certain video-on-demand rights, but which does not include an advertising component, reflects an appropriate economic arrangement.”

The stations covered include Fox affiliate WDKY-TV in Lexington, Ky.; ABC affiliate WSYX-TV and Fox afil WTTE-TV, both in Columbus, Ohio; and WSTR-TV, a MyNetworkTV afil in Cincinnati.

Insight was one of the first cable operators to do a retrans deal with Sinclair, back in 2005. The New York-based multichannel video provider has around 1.4 million subscribers.
