Senate to Consider FCC Nominees Next Tuesday
By TVTechnology published
WASHINGTON: The nomination hearing for the presumptive chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Julius Genachowski, has been scheduled in Congress.
The Senate Commerce Committee has slated a nomination hearing for both Genachowski and the only current Republican FCC commissioner, Robert McDowell, for next Tuesday, June 16.
A hearing had been slated for Genachowski in May but it was then quickly postponed with no explanation. In mid-May, Republicans on the Hill were said to be lobbying to delay nomination hearings for Democrats Genachowski and Mignon Clyburn, nominated as a commissioner, until they could get a GOP nominee in the nomination hearing as well.
So far, Clyburn has not been included in the new hearing. A source told TV Technology sister publication Radio World that though the White House has nominated her as a commissioner at the FCC, her paperwork hasn’t yet reached the Senate committee. – from TV Technology
