SeaChange debuts stand-alone media server

Expanding its server lineup to a broader audience of smaller broadcasters and media distributors, SeaChange International has introduced the MediaServer 1000 (MSV 1000) stand-alone multichannel ingest and playout server, which leverages the reliability of its storage servers with the flexibility of its software-based codecs into a 2RU footprint.

The MSV 1000 server can also operate in a disaster recovery or business continuity role, serving as an emergency backup to primary ingest and playout systems in a broadcast operation.

The MSV 1000 features up to 10 channels of HD ingest and playout or 12 channels of SD ingest and playout in configurations that include 5TB of RAID 6-protected SATA or 1.5TB of RAID 5-protected flash memory storage. The integrated software codecs can natively support a variety of compression formats, including Avid DNxHD, DV100, IMX and MPEG-2.

The server’s “stream-through” functionality enables the unit to be used as a stand-alone system for simple ingest and playout, or it can be expanded to serve as a shared storage system — without the need for file transfers. For shared storage, the MSV 1000’s built-in codecs complement the greater storage capacity of the company’s BML or DDN system, either of which are used to configure such a networked environment.
