Satellite Update

Loral Skynet Corp. filed an application with the FCC requesting modification of condition 11 of its authorization to construct launch and operate Telstar 11N at 37.5 degrees west longitude using Ku and extended Ku bands. Condition 11 requires that the company begin providing service at the 37.5 degrees WL satellite location upon the discontinuation of service from the satellite being replaced. Loral has asked the FCC to either modify this condition or issue a determination that Loral has met the underlying objective of the condition by ensuring continuity of service and demonstrating a commitment to the launch and operation of Telstar 11N. Loral also requested a waiver of FCC rules requiring an FCC Form 312 and Schedule S when filing a modification, because this is a purely non-technical modification. For more information, see FCC Report SAT-00349.

The FCC granted Lockheed Martin Corp. a 30-day extension of its special temporary authority for testing its LM-RPS1 payload at 133.25 degrees WL. This extension began on Jan. 6, 2006, according to the FCC Public Notice. EchoStar Satellite Operating Corp. has met the Contract Execution milestone associated with its license S2636 to launch and operate a Ka-band satellite providing fixed satellite and DBS services from 113 degrees WL. For more information, see the FCC Public Notice Report SAT-00350.
