Red Bee Media Helps Create CCTV 'Identity' for Games

China Central Television (CCTV) has tapped Red Bee Media Ltd. as an official creative and production partner for its coverage of the Summer Games.

Red Bee Media will create and produce the main opening title sequence for CCTV's flagship Olympics programming, along with a family of information graphic templates, including a comprehensive design theme for all CCTV Olympic programme graphics. The templates cover the full range of events, schedules, competitors, medal tables, news and results that make up the Olympic Games. These graphics will be integrated in a rendering system to create on-screen graphics in real time and to put them to air immediately.

CCTV will be covering the Olympic Games across several of its nationwide channels, including a dedicated Olympic Channel with about 18 hours of Olympics footage per day.

This project is a collaboration between Red Bee Media; CCTV; its in-house production facility, CCTV Digital; and its long-term local design partner, Workshop Communications. The project was won following a joint pitch in Beijing by Andy Bryant, director of Red Bee Media's creative business; Anthony Shang, Red Bee Media executive vice president for Asia; and a team from Workshop Communications.

The information graphics will be rendered on an Orad Hi-Tec Systems 3DPlay real-time graphics system.

A ten-person team from Red Bee Media's London and Beijing offices is working on this project, including specialist broadcast designers and graphic systems developers from Germany, France, China and the United Kingdom.
