Consumers will spend three percent more on holiday shopping this year, and HDTV sets rank as one of the areas expected to see flourishing sales, according to a new study from the Consumer Electronics Association.
The association’s 11th Annual Holiday Sales and Forecast survey released last week shows that the No. 1 most desired gift item this season is a plasma TV. Nine percent of consumer electronics buyers plan to purchase a plasma TV as a gift.
In terms of desirability, digital cameras, notebook or laptop computers, a color TV 27-inches or larger and portable MP3 players, according to the survey, followed plasma TVs.
Seventy-six percent of U.S. consumers plan to buy at least one consumer electronics product as a gift during the upcoming holiday season, the survey found.
While plasma TVs top the list of desirable gifts, digital cameras top the list of electronics gifts consumers plan to buy.
