Panasonic solid-state gear to capture 2010 Olympic Winter Games

Olympic Broadcasting Services Vancouver (OBSV), the host broadcaster for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Feb. 12-28, in British Columbia, will use Panasonic P2 HD series equipment to capture the action.

All video delivered from the International Broadcast Center (IBC) to the rights-holding broadcasters around the world will be produced and distributed in the 1080i HD format. The IBC will be located within the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Center.

Vancouver 2010 will be the first Winter Olympic Games captured entirely with HD equipment. At in the Beijing Games last summer — the first HD Summer Games — Panasonic’s DVCPRO HD was used as the official recording format.

Panasonic’s digital technologies have been employed as the official recording format in nine Olympic Games, starting with Barcelona, Spain, in 1992. The company said it will provide P2 HD series camcorders and related equipment incorporating AVC Intra, its latest video codec.
