Time Warner Cable and OmniBus have launched their fifth 24-hour news channel.
News 24 Houston, a joint venture between Time Warner Cable and the A.H. Belo Corporation, launched Dec. 12, 2002. OmniBus provided Time Warner Cable with an integrated newsroom automation system and the project management and staff necessary to support the systems.
Time Warner Cable's local news channels use a wheel format that contains an hour's worth of both live and pre-recorded items.
Journalists use the OmniBus Desktop Control to add graphics to scripts, search and restore video from the archive as well as browse, and edit high-resolution video. The model allows producers to update the news wheel as new material becomes available and lets the stations maintain the appearance of continuous coverage.
Support for open standards provides a clean interface to other key components of the operation such as Pinnacle servers and Vertigo graphics products that are all integrated using the OmniBus media and asset management system.
OmniBus worked with Time Warner to launch four other channels in New York City, Raleigh, N.C., Charlotte, N.C. and Albany N.Y.
