Omneon to introduce new MediaPort servers at IBC

At IBC Omneon will introduce the MediaPort 5320 series, which offers up to four channels of HD/SD record and play in a compact single rack-unit package. Compatible with existing Spectrum media server systems, the new MediaPorts provide high channel density, with all channels available for either record or play in any combination.

Using MPEG-2 codec technology, the units are designed for deployment in HD and SD ingest applications, playout servers, or hybrids — with the ability to be reconfigured quickly when needs change. Material recorded with the MediaPort 5320 can be stored either in Material eXchange format or QuickTime files.

With support for HD bit rates from 18Mb/s to 100Mb/s (with a choice of either 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 chroma sampling), including all of the XDCAM HD operating points, the user can select the optimal balance of video quality, storage required and resource utilization.

The MediaPort 5220 series delivers all of the SD functionality of the 5320 series, with up to four channels of SD record and play in the same single rack-unit package. Supporting SD MPEG-2 encoding and decoding at rates from 3Mb/s to 50Mb/s, the units are fully upgradeable to the corresponding models in the 5320 family through a software upgrade.
