The board of directors at Omneon, a provider of video storage technology, has appointed Suresh Vasudevan as the company's president and CEO and as a member of the board.

Vasudevan most recently was senior vice president of product operations at NetApp, a provider of high-volume digital storage equipment.

"We are thrilled that Suresh has joined Omneon," said Lawrence Kaplan, who has acted as interim president and CEO at Omneon since May 2008 and now returns to his role as vice chairman of the board. "Suresh brings a great balance of leadership and product management knowledge to the company, and we look forward to his guiding Omneon to the next level."

Vasudevan spent nearly a decade at NetApp beginning in corporate development, moving on to lead product management, and eventually heading up all product operations. As a key driver of NetApp's product strategy, he played an instrumental role in NetApp's expansion of its product portfolio beyond the network-attached storage (NAS) market into the storage area network (SAN) and disk-based backup markets.

Prior to his tenure at NetApp, Vasudevan worked at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chicago as a senior engagement manager.
