New set for Portland’s KATU-TV

KATU-TV, the ABC affiliate in Portland, OR, has debuted a new set, designed by FX Group of Ocoee, FL, and a new graphics package for news and weather. The station uses Panasonic P2 camera as and equipment for news acquisition.

As part of an IT/file-based news production environment, crews in the studio and in the field are using Panasonic AJ-SPX800 P2 cameras, 29 AJ-PCS060 P2 Store drives, seven AJ-SDP850 decks with built-in DVD recorders, 17 AJ-PCD10 drives and a large number of P2 cards.

KATU-TV deployed a large amount of ingest points to handle the incoming footage and meet the demands of its busy newsroom. Using the BitCentral Precis system, the station has installed 14 dual-purpose ingest/edit workstations, and 12 additional dedicated video ingest channels, for a total of up to 26 simultaneous feeds.

The station is owned by Seattle-based Fisher Communications.
