By TVTechnology published
NEC Electronics has introduced its next-gen EMMA series of system LSI chips for digital consumer applications. The EMMA3 series was configured to work with systems for HD DVD players and recorders that handle the processing of high-definition disc content.
This newest series incorporates in a single chip the functions necessary to process HD images, audio and graphics in HD DVD players. It can process compression formats (MPEG-2, H.264, and VC-1) and supports other applications via two built-in CPUs, NEC said.
EMMA3 is currently used in HD DVD players carrying the Toshiba brand in North America (models HD-XA2 and HD-A2), and in Japan (D-XA2 and HD- XF2), as well as other next-gen DVD units players sold in Europe and Australia.
