NAB2005: Samsung-ATI Alliance to Display New-Generation DLP HD

Samsung Electronics has chosen Xilleon 226 and Theater 313 from ATI Technologies for its new line-up of digital light processing (DLP) HD sets, which will be featured on the NAB show floor (Booth SU9726G).
The current alliance of Samsung and semi-conductor maker ATI was established in 2003.

Xilleon 226 integrates into a single chip the processing, graphics, video, audio and I/O capabilities typically needed in a set-top box or digital TV monitor. Included are a 300MHz central processing unit, dual HD-capable MPEG decoder, audio decoder, dual display and 2D and 3D graphics engines, conditional access (VOD), transport demultiplexers, peripheral component interconnect, USB, and hard-disk drive interfaces. Xilleon 226 also features spatial-temporal adaptive de-interlacing video.

The Theater 313 incorporates a universal QPSK (quadrature phase-shift keying: a common form of phase modulation), forward data channel (FDC) receiver and a BTSC/Dual FM demodulator and decoder. Theater 313 is also configured to operate in NTSC analog or the ATSC 8VSB mode used for terrestrial broadcast DTV. Currently available in the United States and South Korea, the new Samsung DLP model numbers include: HLR-4266W, HLR-4677W, HLR-5087W, HLP-5067W, HLR-5067W and HLR-5688W.
