NAB Show: Mitsubishi to Unveil 16-Speaker, 3D-Ready HD

Mitsubishi has introduced its new line of flat-panel HD units just in time for NAB. The 2009 brand will be renamed Unisen and tout audio quality as much as video, as well as 3D ready capabilities. The three latest models will feature integrated 16-speaker (5.1 channel) surround sound systems for what the firm says will be enhanced audio quality compared to typical six-speaker surround sound schemes.

The Unisen brand, with HD screen sizes ranging from 40-to-52 inches, will be on display at the NAB Show next week, April 20–23, in Las Vegas, along with its 3D-ready units.

Mitsubishi said its mass-speaker system functions with the help of an advanced algorithm that incorporates audio technology that delays sound signals—projecting them independently from each of the 16 speakers at varying intervals and thereby creating what it calls "fully immersive" surround sound.

Another line, Mitsubishi's new Home Theater TV series, also will include "3D-Ready" technology with screens up to 82 inches, which are designed to consume about half the operating power of similarly sized HD sets, it said.

Mitsubishi will be at booth SL6510.
