Minerva, Thomson Launch IP Television System

Minerva Networks and Thomson multimedia are have partnering on a new platform that offers IP-based on-demand video, live television and entertainment services over DSL. The system integrates Thomson's RCA DSL1500 Gateway Decoder Platform with Minerva's IP Television interactive software and headend hardware.

Ringgold Telephone, a local exchange service provider in Georgia, is the first customer to use the system. The company will offer 130 channels of live television and music, VOD, pay-per-view, Web access and caller-ID on television screens in addition to existing Web and telephone service.

Ringgold cited features of the Thomson DSL1500 including processing capabilities and an internal router and home networking technology that will speed installation and save money as factors in selecting the system.
