Mighty Ducks Arena Taps VSG For Upgrade

White Plains, NY--Venue Services Group (VSG) has been selected to perform major systems installation work for The Arrowhead Pond arena in Anaheim, CA, home to the NHL’s Anaheim Mighty Ducks. The Arrowhead Pond Arena awarded VSG a design and integration contract to modernize its in-house analog scoreboard control room facilities and convert and rebuild the system to be HD-compatible.
The contract, which exceeds $1 million, includes a complete rebuild of the Arena's control room that feeds the arena scoreboard and the updating of audio and video production equipment to facilitate the transition to HD and improve the technical quality of arena productions. Also included in the project is installation of SMPTE fiber to nine camera locations within the facility. VSG has recently completed similar SMPTE fiber installation work at both the Fleet Center and Fenway Park in Boston, MA.
"We felt we needed to enhance our technological capabilities and by updating our analog systems to digital we will be better able to interface with broadcasters’ HD productions," said Kevin Starkey, director of operations for Anaheim Arena Management. "VSG had the experience in SD and HD system design that we were looking for and a reputation for making the whole process quick and easy for technical personnel."
"We were very pleased to have been chosen by Arrowhead Pond to replace their analog control room," said Dave Shaw, president of Venue Services Group. "Arrowhead’s new digital facility replete with state-of-the-art equipment will not only add production flexibility but it will enhance the technical quality of all arena-produced programming from sports events to concerts and other events."
The Arrowhead Pond Arena project is scheduled for an August 2004 completion date, in time for the upcoming hockey season.
