ME TV automates with Crispin

Music and Entertainment Television (ME TV), a regional 24-hour music and entertainment channel based in Austin, TX, has chosen Crispin to provide support for on-air playback, record scheduling and archiving.

ME TV uses Crispin’s on-air playback application, RapidPlayX, to provide playlist monitoring and control. The channel creates and loads playlists, edit events, issues playlist commands and monitors event status. RapidPlayX automatically loads daily program and record schedules for 24/7 operations and updates events when new material is available on the video server.

Crispin’s eight-port DeviceServer controls an Omneon and 360 servers and a Leitch router. The channel uses Crispin’s ArchiveManager (CAM) combined with an external 16-bay nearline RAID to archive assets. With CAM, operators can view media object detail, transfer requests and status messages along with video server and archive content.

All archived material is available for airing and dubbing through drag-and-drop asset transfers. CAM includes Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM), a new policy-based addition that dynamically responds to a facility’s storage needs. With HSM, CAM automatically transfers clips from the play-to-air video server to nearline RAID.

Once there, clips are placed into a queue to be copied to removable media via an archive migration task. CAM ejects the removable media when it hits a high-water mark (user-configurable) and automatically prints labels to be applied to the disc for shelf or offsite storage. CAM with HSM is integrated with automation, and, consequently, does not require middleware to manage the actual archive volumes.
