Linear Acoustic to show multichannel audio distribution at NAB2005

Combining four 5.1 channel AC-3-encoded programs into a single AES format digital signal, Linear Acoustic’s new Model LA-5421 StreamStacker audio bitstream multiplexer and Model LA-5124 StreamStacker de-multiplexer/AC-3 splice will be demonstrated at NAB2005.

The products enable broadcasters, program providers, cable head-end or satellite origination facilities to cost-effectively distribute multichannel audio.

The Model LA-5124 offers enhanced channel density by extracting up to four 5.1 channel AC-3-encoded programs from a single AES format digital signal. Stacked AC-3 streams produced by the companion Model LA-5421 multiplexer are fully compatible with all Dolby-certified AC-3 decoders.

By combining up to four multichannel AC-3 programs into a single AES pair, the StreamStacker multichannel audio distribution system offers enhanced channel density - more than 20 channels fit in the same space required for eight channels in Dolby E-encoded audio data. At a receive location the stacked stream is readily separated into its original programs and local AC-3 streams are inserted using StreamStacker’s splicing technology.
