Lebanon: MEB Conference to Offer Working HD Station

The Middle East Broadcasters' MEB 2005 on Dec. 8-10 in Beirut will include Avid,Apple,Omneon Video Networks,Thomson Broadcast,Aces/Panasonic,Discreet and Selevision as broadcast technology exhibitors.

MEB-HD, one of the first demonstrations of a fully functioning HD station in the Middle East, will be a centerpiece of the show. According to published reports, more than 30 companies from North America, Europe and Asia are donating equipment and services to construct and operate MEB-HD.

MEB-HD is being held to demonstrate to broadcasters in that region of the world the latest technology, and help them learn how they can realistically begin the conversion to HD at their own stations, according to Nigel Spratling, MEB-HD's project director, who helped arrange the first working HD station at NAB last April.

The HD station's content will include excerpts from conference sessions, interviews with broadcasting leaders, documentaries made for MEB, and interviews on the show floor (similar to NAB's daily show). MEB has partnered with satellite uplinker ArabSat to broadcast MEB-HD 24 hours a day for the three days of the show.
