KVUE-TV turns to Pixel Power for new HD news graphics

KVUE-TV, the Belo-owned ABC affiliate in Austin, TX, will use the Pixel Power Clarity graphics systems for its HD news production.

The station will use a Clarity 3000, two Clarity 5000 systems and a LogoVision branding system for news graphics, branding and promotion as well as video and graphics for the HD monitors installed on the HD news studio set.

Prior to using the Pixel Power technology, the station had to daisy-chain two channels under the control of a 30-button shot box to roll its opens and closes, according to KVUE director of technology Mike Wenglar. Doubling that approach for HD “would have been unmanageable,” he said. The station’s new Clarity 3000 integrates with its Avid iNews newsroom computer system, so the director can drive it directly from the playlist.

KVUE plans to launch its HD news next month. To learn more about KVUE-TV’s conversion to HD local news, see: “Local HD news transition proves to be ‘ultimate dream’ for one TV engineer.
