KUHT Taps Algolith for HD Transition
By TVTechnology published
Houston’s public television broadcaster, KUHT, has selected upconversion and noise reduction equipment from Algolith as part of the station’s move into high-definition operations.
“We needed a solution that would smoothly and seamlessly help us upconvert our SD signals to HD as a component of our HD transition tool kit and meet our viewers’ high standards for image quality,” said KUHT’s director of engineering, Marty Kirkland. “We had a particular requirement for superior conversion quality with aspect ratio control through AFD to help us maintain formatting control of our programming. We were extremely impressed with the Algolith team at every level and commend them on their forward-thinking approach to broadcasting and the reconfigurable nature of their Algogear card.”
Algolith’s Algogear XVC-1011-UC Upconverter with Noise Reduction product combines SD to HD format conversion and also cleans up signals being processed, reducing the card count necessary to perform these operations.
KUHT is a PBS member station and in 1969 was one of the founding stations of the Public Broadcasting Service.
