KRNV Transitions to HD With Ross OverDrive and Synergy MD-X

KRNV, the NBC affiliate in Reno, Nev. has purchased a Synergy 4 MD-X multidefinition production switcher and OverDrive production control system for high-definition and automation capabilities.

OverDrive is a scalable production control system with a real-time LiveLink MOS interface to the newsroom editorial system. The device control capabilities of the Synergy 4 MD-X digital production switcher combined with OverDrive gives users the ability to execute a more consistent, efficient, and sophisticated news production.

The Synergy 4 MD-X combines a four effects bank control panel with the MD-X live production engine, providing four full MLEs with up to four downstream keyers. Each MLE is equipped with 4 channels of Squeeze & Tease 3D DVEs, two standard UltraChrome chroma keyers, and 4 channels of MLE-Store with MediaCache moving image playback. The Synergy 4 MD-X supports HD, SD or any combination of the two formats.

"The Synergy 4 MD-X with OverDrive was selected for its proven switching and automation capabilities for our local news programming," said David Feher, director of engineering at KRNV. "Through OverDrive, not only the Synergy switcher itself is controlled, but we have the ability to control external supporting functions such as the audio mixer and external server playlists during newscasts."
