KCDO-TV Completes Tower Construction

STERLING, COLO.: KCDO-TV, an Retro TV affiliate in Eastern Colorado, has completed construction of a new tower, according to The Fort Morgan Times. KCDO, formerly KUPN-TV, built a 1,198-foot tower (including antenna) west of Fort Morgan, which will expand the station’s coverage area to include the Eastern Slope foothills communities of Fort Collins, Greeley, Longmont, Loveland and parts of Denver.

The station general manager said test signals would likely be lit up today. Once the facility is fully functional, he said carriage on regional cable systems would be solicited. The station is currently carried on area Dish and DirecTV service.

KCDO carries the “Northern Colorado News 5” at 10 p.m., the only newscast targeting that particular area, the general manager said. The station covers a substantial, sparsely populated area that comprises 48 Colorado counties, seven Wyoming counties and 13 in Nebraska.

The tower and transmitter facility, which required additional power lines from the Morgan County Rural Electric Association and new fiber-optics from the local phone company, Wiggins Telephone, can support up to four more antennas, the Times said.
