Global satellite provider Intelsat pre-booked more than 35,000 hours of programming for 50 channels for the summer games in Athens. This traffic event adds up to nearly four years of continual programming carried within a 20-day period.
Using six satellites, the Intelsat system carries Olympic footage from Athens to North and South America and Asia for customers such as CCTV in China and GlobeCast--a satellite transmission service provider.
GlobeCast will offer services to ATV Hong Kong, TV Globo, Brazil, TVB Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei Broadcast Pool. Telecom provider OTE in Greece will provide occasional use services to European customers.
