HDTV Coming to Puerto Rico Public TV

WIPR-TV (San Juan, P.R.) is upgrading its broadcast and production facilities with an eye toward HDTV.

The Systems Group, a systems integrator, is the technical design consultant on the project
in San Juan that will serve WIPR and sister station WIPM in Mayaguez.

The project includes four studios, four production control rooms and two master control rooms
totaling 15,000 square feet of renovated area. When completed, the facility will enable broadcast
four digital channels including a standard-definition main channel, and HD channel, and two
educational or government-oriented channels.

WIPR is also replacing its existing analog videotape equipment with an automated server-based
system including a nonlinear newsroom editing system and a DVD-based archive.

The Systems Group is working with architectural firm Janson Design Group on the project.

"WIPR's strong commitment to digital broadcasting and production has resulted in a true state-of-the-art facility design that will offer cutting-edge technology for the next decade and beyond," said TSG President Chris Mehos.
