Harris Traffic System Streamlines Tribune Ad Orders

Tribune Broadcasting has deployed the Harris broadcast management system (BMS) to streamline its business processes between advertising agencies and broadcast stations.

The BMS system supports the TVB-developed open standard for electronic data interface (EDI). Electronic orders for ads are sent directly to a Tribune Broadcasting TV station, replacing the fax method. Now, hundreds of orders can be processed in less than two days, according to Harris.

The BMS system enables Tribune Broadcasting's 26 TV stations to receive large volumes of orders via electronic contracting (EC) from ITN, an advertising agency buying-service. BMS receives the orders and holds them in a pre-approval status, generating automatic delivery status e-mails to both the agency and the station. The station reviews and approves pending orders, which are then scheduled to air.
