GlobeCast Australia distributes sports content with TANDBERG Television HD compression technology

Distribution platform provider GlobeCast Australia is using encoders and decoders from TANDBERG Television for the HD contribution and distribution of sporting events. Serving broadcasters in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, GlobeCast Australia is also expanding its TANDBERG Television digital satellite newsgathering encoding capabilities and deploying TANDBERG digital receivers for its new GlobeCam miniature camera broadcast initiative, which provides bird’s-eye-view live video footage from sports events.

For GlobeCast’s Sydney international teleport, TANDBERG Television E5782 MPEG-2 encoders and multiformat RX1290 MPEG-2/MPEG-4 AVC decoders provide high-quality 4:2:2 profile HD video images. The company’s SM6620 modulators, which support the DVB-S2 standard, are also being used. For DSNG applications, GlobeCast Australia is using the E5740 Voyager MPEG-2 SD and E5788 Voyager MPEG-2 4:2:2 HD encoders.

GlobeCast Australia is also deploying TANDBERG’s TT1222 integrated receiver/decoders as part of its recently introduced GlobeCam service. GlobeCam uses miniature cameras to broadcast live, onboard action from sporting events such as motor racing, cycling, aerobatics and skydiving. The new service enables broadcasters to put viewers at the heart of the action.
