Global TV consolidates master control and channel branding with Miranda Technology

Miranda’s Imagestore 2 master control switcher is helping Global TV to efficiently insert local commercials and send programs to its affiliates in Canada.

The Global Television Network (Global TV) in Canada is using 12 Miranda Imagestore 2 master control switching and channel branding processors.

The system will be used with four Presmaster 2 multichannel control panels for the distribution of programming throughout the British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. This installation at Global TV’s Calgary facility was part of an overall upgrade that consolidated playout operations for the network’s Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg broadcasts.

Global TV, wholly-owned by CanWest Global Communications, broadcasts more than 11 television stations licensed in eight provinces, and reaches 94 percent of English-speaking Canada.

It integrated operations for the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba into the network's Calgary facility in June 2004, with B.C. planned for mid-November. The Presmaster 2 switcher panel in operation at the facility is a fully-featured, master control switching and channel branding panel capable of controlling up to two Imagestore 2 systems per transmission channel. Standard features include video and multi-group audio mixing, clip playout, dual 3-D-DVEs, animation/clock insertion, automated character generation and EAS support.

Global TV is working with Miranda's Easykey automated mixer/keyer and the Playstore compact SDI stillstore.
