Game Creek Video used two PESA Cheetah-equipped HD trucks, Patriot and Yankee Clipper, for ESPN/ESPN2 coverage and ABC's primary HD broadcast of NBA playoff games, including the seventh and final game between the Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs.
Some of Game Creek's trucks and their "B" units were on site for almost 45 days, providing complete coverage of post-season games at the SBC Center in San Antonio, TX. Patriot and Patriot B provided ABC with the primary HD feeds for its NBA playoff coverage, while Yankee Clipper and SD mobile unit Discovery, which also are equipped with a PESA router, supported "SportsCenter" and a variety of other NBA programs for ESPN networks.
The Cheetah systems installed in Patriot and Yankee Clipper are mounted in 128x128 frames, populated with HD cards, and feature 64 outputs with HD-to-SD down conversion. Each routing system handles SDI and HDTV signals, as well as other non-standard digital signals in one frame. They also provide redundant power, redundant control and two outputs per bus.
The Cheetah's dual output option allows truck engineers to reduce rack space and use less cabling than is normally required with other systems. A Cheetah SD analog 256x256 router is used for routing analog sources throughout each truck.
