Fox Deploys Tandberg HD/SD Distribution Systems
By TVTechnology published
The Fox Network will install five Tandberg Television HD/SD MPEG-2 encoding systems with statistical multiplexing for distribution of eight channels--four SD and four HD--over satellite. Each system will feature one spare SD and HD encoder for redundancy, with the operation monitored by a Tandberg nCompass system from Fox's L.A. headquarters to give operators a view of the status of all components.
The E5770 and E5780 encoders' MPEG-2 compression enable Fox to transmit multiple SD and HD channels within the same multiplex. The network also recently reported that its 194 affiliates would monitor HD programming using Tandberg's TT1280 HD decoders.
