The Progress & Freedom Foundation, a self-described free-market think tank, has hired Ken Ferree as its president.
Ferree served as chief of the FCC’s Media Bureau under former FCC Chairman Michael Powell.
PFF studies the digital revolution and its implications for public policy. Supporters include Microsoft, Clear Channel, CBS Corp. The Walt Disney Company, Google and both satellite radio companies.
PFF Chairman and co-founder George “Jay” Keyworth, II, said Ferree’s leadership skills will help to increase the impact of the foundation on public policy.
Ferree was appointed Chief of the Cable Services Bureau, now the Media Bureau, by Powell and served from 2001 to 2005.
After his stint at the FCC, Ferree served as an executive vice president, chief operating officer and interim CEO at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Prior to his FCC work, Ferree practice law with multiple firms, focusing on communications law. Most recently, he led the communications practice group at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton.
