Food Network Prepares for HD 'Dish'

If TV cooking shows already whet a lot of appetites in plain old analog, guess what's coming to a screen near you? Dish Network plans to expand its HD menu to 30 channels this month with the launch of Food Network HD on its DBS service. Dish said the non-fattening addition will signify the most ambitious HD line up of original programming of any pay-TV service to date, satellite or cable.

Food Network HD, launched earlier this year by Scripps Networks, will include such tasty program morsels as "Boy Meets Grill" and "Everyday Italian." The new HD channel is located on Dish channel 9462 for subs that sign up for the DishHD Bronze package ($30 for 10 months) or higher-priced HD desserts.

EchoStar says its Dish now offers more than 200 hours of daily HD content. As added incentive to all potential Dish subs (HD and otherwise), the DBS firm is offering free standard installation for up to four rooms, a free DVR or HD receiver, and a choice of one free premium movie package for three months (HBO, Showtime, Starz! or Cinemax).
