Film Or Digital?

Film purists who saw the recent ad claiming the New York Film Academy is "going digital" can rest easy. The ad features the line, "The New York Film Academy is Going Digital." But thatâs just in terms of the editing, according to David Klein, the New York Film Academy's deputy director.

"The statement Îgoing digital" refers to the fact that we were moving from linear flatbed editing to digital editing [at the time the ad ran]," said Klein. Now, all of the editing done in every program offered by the Academy is digital. The school made the shift about two months ago: "Our four- and six-week programs were still editing on film up until, I believe, two months ago," said Klein. "[Now] all of our programs that do visual storytelling edit digitally, regardless of the format in which it was shot."
