F&F Productions covers U.S. Open with Ikegami HD cameras

F&F Productions provided HDTV coverage of the recent U.S. Open tennis tournament with Ikegami HDK-79EC HD cameras for its fourth all-HD truck mobile production unit, the GTX-15.

F&F Productions debuted its new GTX-15 mobile unit at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, NY. In addition to its Ikegami HDK-79EC HD cameras, the truck, which is capable of accommodating up to 24 CCUs with three video positions, is also equipped with two Ikegami HDL-50 compact HD cameras for POV shots and 17in and 22in Ikegami LCD HD monitors.

In addition, the use of Ikegami SE-79D system expanders gave F&F the flexibility to use the HD cameras handheld or in hard camera setups. Each system expander includes a 9in 16:9 color LCD viewfinder, with a wide viewing angle and low lag.

The HDK-79EC uses three 2/3-inch 2.5-megapixel CMOS imaging sensors to achieve supreme picture quality and multiformat HD performance. These 1920 x 1080 active-pixel CMOS sensors are switchable between interlace and progressive operating modes. Providing a full 16:9 aspect ratio, the HDK-79EC’s CMOS sensors support 1080/60i, 1080/24p and 720/60p HD formats. Also available are optional 50Hz formats — 1080/50i and 720/50p — and high-speed dual-link 1080/60p, and 720/120i for super slow motion.

Incorporating Ikegami’s Chip C4 ASIC video processing technology, the HDK-79EC HD camera can be configured to use with either triax or SMPTE fiber camera cable. Additional system components include the CCU-790A full-digital camera control unit with built-in broadcast downconverter and the CB-79HD/TA-79HD Triax Adaptor System.
