FCC Receives Early Analog Surrender Request
By TVTechnology published
The FCC's Media Bureau has received a request from Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corporation to cease operation of analog non-commercial educational station WNVT-TV (Goldvein, VA) and surrender its license for channel 53 prior to the end of the DTV transition and operate WNVT-DT as a single channel, digital-only station on channel 30.
According to Sarah Bartenstein, director of communications for Commonwealth, the request was made to avoid the capital and operating costs of running both the analog and digital station over the next four years. According to Bartenstein, almost all of WNVT viewers receive the station via cable.
